The training cum distribution programme at Ziro
The training cum distribution programme for plantation of walnut and kiwi under NEC project “Integrated Horticulture including Fisheries for North Eastern Hill region” was conducted on 28th January, 2019 at Ziro of Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. The training was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh centre, Basar in coordination with the kiwi grower’s cooperative society, Lower Subansiri district, Ziro. The training was attended by 46 farmers of various villages viz. Hong, Bimchi, Mudantage, Hija Hari, Tajong , Michi, Bamin, Bascamp of Lower Subansiri district. These farmers were provided with 4000 grafted seedlings of Kiwi and 1300 seedlings of walnut.
In her inaugural speech, Mrs. Kago Kampu, Treasurer of Ziro commercial group briefed about the activities of the kiwi grower’s cooperative society. She also discussed the problems being faced by the farmers in grading and packaging of fruits. She requested to install the grading machine and packaging unit for the welfare of kiwi growers of district.
Dr. Rajesh A. Alone, Scientist (Agroforestry), ICAR AP Centre, Basar, briefed about the research and extension activities being carried out by ICAR Arunachal Pradesh centre for welfare of the farming community of Arunachal Pradesh. He also elaborated the various activities being carried out in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh under TSP and NEC projects for socioeconomic development of tribal farmers.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Scientist (Soil Physics), ICAR AP Centre, Basar emphasized over the proper soil sampling and soil testing for better nutrient management. He advised the farmers to adopt vermicomposting for better soil health.
The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Sh. Gyait Loder, Secretary, kiwi grower’s cooperative society, Lower Subansiri district, Ziro. In his speech, he requested ICAR to provide the local farmers with low cost polyhouse, so that, the off-season cultivation of vegetables can be promoted.
